The most incredible views of any campground I’ve ever been to. Every single site has a view of the ocean. We stayed at site 7 which was a bit small, really only room for one tent and no shade. But we did have privacy from our neighbors. Everyone respected the quiet hours which was absolutely amazing. I wish the campground made a shortcut trail to the bathroom because taking the road is rather long from our site. It’s a vault toilet, no sink, it’s kept fairly clean and always stocked. We took the extremely overgrown trail (starts next to site 9) to the beach. It was worth the effort but definitely cover your extremities. I hope they clean it up at some point. The camp host was a very nice man. They sell bundles of wood for $15, but we grabbed ours in Cambria for half the price (the camp host didn’t stay overnight but was available 9-6). Raccoons run wild at night and want your food so beware. One tried to open our cooler. Keep food in your car and take out your trash to the available cans. We only stayed two nights but I wish we had more time because it was so incredible. The sunset, stargazing, the hikes, all of it was magnificent.
I could not rave about this place anymore…. The views ….semi private campsites not too smelly toilets … the trail to the beach was a lil overgrown with poison ivy but we just had a very wet early start to the year so pretty expected….. Mo and Jo are great hosts!!!! I stayed for a total of 5 days.. I will return!!!!
Possibly the best campsite in all of California. Good luck getting a reservation. Stellar access to one of the best hikes in all of Big Sur. Just stunning!
Camp host ran their generator at 3:30am, 5:30am, and 7:30am. Even though there was a sign saying "quiet between 10pm and 8am".
We came upon this incredible campground 18 years ago and have wanted to return. We finally made it! And it is as beautiful as we remembered. The view cannot be beat! Admittedly, our 35' fifth wheel is a bit on the large size for the campground. The roads are narrow and while it is fairly open - there are rocks and occasional curbs which make it more challenging in places. This also made backing in to spaces more challenging. Remember that the length stated on the website is trailer AND tow vehicle space. Most of the spaces have a great view, as it is nicely laid out and sites are reasonably spaced. Hosts were congenial and helpful. Note there is no wifi or cell service here or for about 30 minutes north and south. Poison oak is abundant, so watch yourself on the trail to the beach. We had site 6 which we fit in and had a great view. Make sure to come with water - there is none here, nor is there a dump station. Good price with America the Beautiful pass.
Beautiful campsite right on the ocean. The restrooms were very clean and mid week it was not very busy.
an amazing experience. the campground is situated right on the coast, with breathtaking views of the ocean and surrounding cliffs. the sites are spacious and well-maintained, with plenty of trees for shade and privacy.
there are a number of hiking trails in the area, including the nearby sand dollar beach, which is a great spot for swimming and sunbathing. the campground also has easy access to highway 1, making it a convenient base for exploring the beautiful big sur coastline.
one thing to keep in mind is that the campground is first-come, first-served, so it can be hard to get a spot during peak season. also, there are no showers or flush toilets, so be prepared for rustic camping.
overall, i would highly recommend kirk creek campground to anyone looking for a peaceful and scenic camping experience on the central california coast. it's truly a special place that i can't wait to return to.
We left our Sunroof open and what must have been 35 Raccoons had a bit of a party in our car, just from their grubby little paw prints, still worth it.
